One-Day Sports (KG I to Class IV)

After a premature rainy season, the sun finally came out in time for the first sports days here at Divine Intervention School. On the 27th and 28th April most of the classes headed to the Luangmual Field to play all kinds of sports representing their house colours. Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, the primary classes (KG I to Class IV) stayed at the school and played outdoor games.

Easter at Divine Intervention School

With the new academic session starting on the 12th April, the Easter weekend has proven to be the perfect time for the hostellers to find their feet and bond with each other.

Class VIII, IX and X hostellers headed to the Synod Conference Centre where they joined in with the Easter Youth Retreat from the 14th-16th April. It was led by several pastors and evangelists from different parts of India, and theme was ‘Journey to the Cross.’ It was an inspirational time for many of the students and a wonderful opportunity to focus on the whole story of Easter for the entire weekend. They all returned having made new friends and ready to start the new academic session in earnest from Monday 17th April.

Meanwhile, all the hostellers below Class VIII remained at the school where they were able to have fun playing and getting to know each other better. On Good Friday, they watched a film about Easter and discussed the story with the wardens. On Saturday, they were treated to an outing to KV Paradise and Aizawl Theological College in Durtlang. Finally, on Easter Sunday morning, they all attended the church service at BCM Government Complex, not far from the school. The church is the youngest Baptist church in Mizoram, with a small membership and incomplete building, so it was very special for the congregation to be visited by so many of the hostel children. They enjoyed taking part and returned to the school happily clutching the special Easter boiled eggs they had received.

For the hostel community, the Easter weekend has been both a relaxing and meaningful time. We are excited about the year that lies ahead for all of the students and their wardens.

One Last Bible Study

The Class X students will complete their MBSE board exams on Monday, 20th March, after which they will leave the school and head home to get ready for the next step in their lives, hopefully with a chance to study at a top Higher Secondary school.

In their last weekend at the school, from 17th to 19th March, they have been treated to a series of Bible studies led by an evangelist team from Bassikos Institution and Research Centre. The studies, presented by Malsawmkima Hmar and Lalhmangaihzuala, have covered the entire gospel story and presented a clear salvation outline, all while capturing everyone’s full attention. From Friday night to the whole of Sunday, the students and staff have all been blessed by their ministry. It has been a wonderful way to end their happy time at Divine Intervention School and ensure that each one of them ‘goes home with Jesus,’ in the words of the Principal.

Holiday Beautification Underway

For most of the schoolchildren and their families, March is a time of well-deserved rest, basking in the glory of exam success. But back on campus, work is afoot to beautify the campus ready for the new session. Even the teachers have been hard at work, preparing the new textbooks and notebooks for their classes.

From spectacular murals to a new glass frontage, see the pictures for a taster of what awaits the kids in April. We even have the Public Works Department to thanks for finally resurfacing the road outside the school. Kids and bus drivers can look forward to a smoother ride to school next session!

Today, the 1st March, is the last school day of the academic session. Lower-school exams are over and only the Class X hostellers will remain to prepare for their board exams. Notices for current and prospective parents are as follows:

Energy Club Poster Competition

Last week the Energy Club at Divine Intervention School, led by Miss Chhanpuii, ran a poster competition. The handiwork of the Class IX students can be seen displayed on the main steps of the school. This morning the winner was announced to be C. Lalthlansanga, who was awarded a prize during the morning devotion.

The coming week will be busy for all the participants as they will be completing their energy audits for their own localities and submitting them to the Club. They have also been taking part in an inter-school essay-writing competition. We are very proud of the club and their hard work.

A Visit from Dr J Zamanthangi

On Friday, 17 February, Divine Intervention School was treated to an afternoon with Dr J Zamanthangi who came to visit and give some words of encouragement and inspiration to the students.

Pi Mani, as she is often fondly known, worked as a medical doctor in London for several decades and continues to be based there. She is an active member of the UK Zofate fellowship, regarded as a grandmother to all the Mizo people who come to the UK, whether for work or for study.

Now she is in Mizoram for several months working on a retirement project which will involve constructing a large school in Falkawn. She has been busy with many speaking engagements and is much in demand, so we are thankful that she was able to spend time with us yesterday in what was her third visit to the school since her first in 2012.

Green House wins Quiz Competition 2017

The annual DIS Quiz Competition was held on 15th February 2017. It was hosted by Miss Tetei and Sir LSa (Maths teachers) and adjudicated by Miss Manuni (English teacher) and Miss Chhanpuii (Maths teacher). Thanks to the hard work of Sir Hlutea (Physics teacher), the questions were presented in a captivating interactive format which recreated the atmosphere of a television game show.

Two participants each drawn from Class VI and above represented their respective houses in the first two rounds, which included multiple choice questions on a wide range of subjects including geography, history and English grammar. The rest of the students also got a chance to participate throughout the competition. The selection of finalists came down to several tie-breakers, due to the impressively high standard of the participants.

The final four teams for the final round were yellow, green and two red teams, since blue had been eliminated in the earlier rounds. The final results were as follow:

  1. Green house
  2. Red house
  3. Red house
  4. Yellow house

Congratulations to everyone involved. Let’s hope the competition serves to spark everyone’s minds as they prepare for their final exams next week.
