Foundation Week 2017

Our school foundation day is the 15th October and it is celebrated differently every year. This year we spent a whole week enjoying a range of activities and competitions.

On Monday, some of the students helped to clean the school while others were involved in preparing some lovely stage decorations. Cleanliness is especially important these days since we are trying to work towards a Clean School Award (Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar).

On Tuesday morning, we had the school’s first ever debate competition final. Teams from the yellow and green houses did very well and ultimately the green house won, arguing that social media does more harm than good. In the afternoon, Miss Olivia and Miss Jenny led the elocution competition for the second time. We heard excellent poetry recitations from students of Class IV to Class IX with three sets of winners.

On Wednesday, we held a spectacular dance competition in which ten groups displayed their talents and worthy winners were selected by the judges. Meanwhile, everyone had come in traditional cultural dress, so the youngest classes spent the day learning Mizo dances outside. The day ended with an informal ‘lampui’ in the hall.

The kids, including all the hostellers, went home to enjoy an extended weekend break including the Diwali holiday on Thursday. On the Friday, however, the staff and workers met together at Liandova Picnic Spot for a day of recreation and fellowship.

It has been a diverse and enjoyable week for all. Well done to all the participants who put in hours of preparation, as well as the teachers who helped to make it all happen. We expect great things in the year to come!

Hostellers attend LEFI Youth Retreat

On Sunday 3rd September, all the hostellers attended the one day Youth Retreat held at the Synod Conference Centre. It was organised by the Laymen’s Evangelical Fellowship, Aizawl and featured speakers from other parts of India. The boys and girls also participated through special items. They seem to have had a wonderful time.

Easter at Divine Intervention School

With the new academic session starting on the 12th April, the Easter weekend has proven to be the perfect time for the hostellers to find their feet and bond with each other.

Class VIII, IX and X hostellers headed to the Synod Conference Centre where they joined in with the Easter Youth Retreat from the 14th-16th April. It was led by several pastors and evangelists from different parts of India, and theme was ‘Journey to the Cross.’ It was an inspirational time for many of the students and a wonderful opportunity to focus on the whole story of Easter for the entire weekend. They all returned having made new friends and ready to start the new academic session in earnest from Monday 17th April.

Meanwhile, all the hostellers below Class VIII remained at the school where they were able to have fun playing and getting to know each other better. On Good Friday, they watched a film about Easter and discussed the story with the wardens. On Saturday, they were treated to an outing to KV Paradise and Aizawl Theological College in Durtlang. Finally, on Easter Sunday morning, they all attended the church service at BCM Government Complex, not far from the school. The church is the youngest Baptist church in Mizoram, with a small membership and incomplete building, so it was very special for the congregation to be visited by so many of the hostel children. They enjoyed taking part and returned to the school happily clutching the special Easter boiled eggs they had received.

For the hostel community, the Easter weekend has been both a relaxing and meaningful time. We are excited about the year that lies ahead for all of the students and their wardens.

Bhutan Mission Trip Report

Almost every year, a group of Class IX students gets the chance to visit Bhutan for a ‘mission trip’ experience. Today, the group of 2016 presented their report to the school during morning devotion. 18 students and three teachers had visited Bhutan from the 12th to the 21st December, travelling by bus and train.

In Bhutan, they spent time at the town of Phuntsholing and the capital Thimphu. They visited many of the tourist hotspots and sites of historic and religious interest, especially in and around Paro, including the Tiger’s Nest. For many of the students, it was their first exposure to Buddhist places of worship and sacred sites, so it was a rare chance to learn about Buddhist culture. As a Christian group, they were able to spend time privately in prayer together.

They met and had fellowship with some of the local Christians in Bhutan, and were fortunate to be present at the monthly gathering of Mizo Christians. Miss Manuni and Isaac of Class IX both sang solos and everyone was blessed by the chance to gather together and share a meal. Near the border with Bhutan they also attended an ICI church service in Jaigaon where they had a chance to participate and spend time with the isolated Christians there.

The group had a wonderful time together and have many stories to tell. We are thankful to Miss Thatei, Miss Chhanpuii and Miss Manuni for guiding them so well.

School-trip to Lungleng Village

On Saturday, 26 November, Classes V and VI had a joint outing to Lungleng village to find out more about local Mizo history. The village is of special historical interest because it has preserved the home of one of the most famous Mizo chiefs, Khamliana Sailo, whose life and achievements are well-known. He was one of the first of the Mizo people to quickly acquire literacy in reading and writing with the help of the pioneer missionaries, but his legacy also extended to his outstanding gift for diplomacy and his wise leadership of his people at the height of the British colonial presence in Mizoram.
