Vacancy: School and Hostel Nurse

Annual sports were held at Aizawl Lammual on 25-26 April 2019. Everyone from Class V upwards was able to participate in a variety of sporting activities and had a great time representing their various houses and making new friends from different classes, which is especially important at the beginning of the academic session.
The confined classes (KG-Cl IV) spent just one day of sports very successfully in the school hall. Every child was able to take part and had a memorable day. The second day was spent holding a parents-teachers meeting.

We are pleased to be able to show pictures of our DIS schoolbags being received by students at the school organised by the Bethany Colony Leprosy Association in Andhra Pradesh. The children who attend live in the colony because their parents or other relatives are still suffering from leprosy and the Association provides such families with a means to survive.
Pastor Emmanuel of the Laymen’s Evangelical Fellowship has been responsible for bringing the Colony to the attention of our school in the past, and he recently established a formal relationship between the Colony and the Leprosy Mission branch in Mizoram, who now take an active role in looking after the community.
The community and the school have many needs, especially for workers, but when the need for schoolbags was expressed we were delighted to be able to contribute in a small way to the ministry that goes on there.

It’s not every year that Easter falls within the school session, and every time it happens we try to provide the hostellers with an interesting way to spend the special holiday. This year, after just one week at the hostel, we sent all the hostellers to stay over at the Synod Conference Centre for an Easter Youth Retreat organised by Pastor Emmanuel of the Laymen’s Evangelical Fellowship. We have a long-standing relationship with Pastor Emmanuel and we believe the hostellers gained a lot from the retreat. They had teaching from guest preachers from outside Mizoram, praise and worship led by our very own Sir Toshi, our new hostel warden-cum-chaplain, and they had the chance to experience a few nights in the city with their new friends.

We are super proud to announce that under the expert leadership of Miss Chhanpuii, Divine Intervention School’s Energy Club was awarded first position out of all the other participating schools in Mizoram. This is in recognition of all the different activities that were organised by the club, comprising Class VIII students. They took several surveys, held a school debate and contributed to several essay and drawing competitions to promote energy awareness.
Some students also took home individual prizes as can be seen in the pictures below. It’s a great achievement for all the members of the club as well as for the school.

Students from Class VIII to X took part in this year’s Mizoram Mathematics Society Competition. Sir LSa gave them good guidance and they came out saying it was simple! We hope their confidence will be reflected in their results, which will be announced in December.

The hostellers were recently treated to a day out at the Science Centre in Aizawl. It is full of educational and interactive exhibits which inspire the kids about the subjects they learn about at school. They enjoyed the refreshing change of scene and had a memorable experience.
Divine Intervention School has had a long relationship with Breakthrough Believers Ministries ever since the foundation of the school. Teams have often visited to minister and lead worship among the children. Recently we had the pleasure of taking part in two separate programmes.
The first was the annual LiveJam visit, in which a praise and worship team led an afternoon of worship at the school among the Middle and Higher sections. They brought an engaging visitor who entertained the children with his beatboxing while sharing a meaningful message of encouragement based on his life experience.
Later on, the youngest hostellers (Class VII and below) were invited to spend the Saturday at Vanapa Hall at the Kids Conference programme. This was a whole day of praise and worship, especially designed for younger children. They had a wonderful time and wanted to go back for more on Sunday!
The second session of the nationwide Energy Club scheme was organised this year for Middle School students and several of our Class VIII students have taken part under the guidance of Miss Chhanpuii. Now that all the scheduled activities have finished, prizes were distributed last week and we are just awaiting the state level awards to be distributed.
Our school students took part in various audits and surveys at home and in their localities and school regarding energy consumption. They also took part in essay competitions and painting competitions. In addition to the main painting competition, Miss Chhanpuii also organised another competition under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which was open to all students in the school. Several students from Class V to Class X took part and the best have been selected to go through to the State Level round where they will receive a participation prize and the chance to proceed to the National Level.
Together with Miss Joanna, we also organised a debate, in which Energy Club members participated in a formal debate of the motion, ‘The Big Switch: This House would Replace all Bulbs with LED Bulbs’. The motion was passed by an energy-minded audience and the proposition team also won best team and best debater, judged by Miss Baby and Miss Manuni.
From 15th October we celebrated the 13th annual Foundation Week of Divine Intervention School. As always, there were a variety of competitions and events to showcase our students’ talents.
On the first day, Vice-Principal Sir Mapuia led the opening function which included special items from both teachers and students. The teachers and staff also enjoyed a special lunch in honour of the occasion.
On the second day, Sir LS-a organised the next stage of the SongSlam solo singing competition. All the contestants did very well and we look forward to the final round.
On the third day, there was an elocution competition organised by Miss Olivia, Miss Manuni and Miss Baby, English teachers from the Junior, Middle and High School sections. The standard was even higher than before and the participants brought the poems to life in an entertaining way.
On the fourth day, there was a quiz competition organised by Miss Chhanpuii and Sir Zothana. The teams did very well and it was an enjoyable end to the week.
